Health – An Interdisciplinary Focus
Health is a condition of mental, physical and social well being where infirmity and illness are absent. The four main components of health are: physical, mental, emotional and social or well-being. It may also include physiological, cognitive, andbehavioural elements such as motivation, attitude, and communication, and psychosocial aspects such as support, interaction, and adjustment.
The four components of good health are the four Cs – healthy diet, control of blood pressure, maintenance of weight and muscle mass, and daily exercise. All these elements are interrelated and reinforce each other to ensure a balanced individual. There are some who argue that mental health and well-being are independent components of a balanced personality and that, for them, good health is a subset of good personality traits. This view is also reflected in some of the research on the determinants of health and personality disorders. Still, they may be strongly influenced by each other.
The definition of health has become an important issue in society. It defines the way we should live, and what we deserve as a human being. It may affect the way we choose to live our lives. The definition of “healthy” is often influenced by cultural norms, the impact of medicine and science, the definition of beauty, and the beliefs of individuals and organizations. However, these definitions are often changing and evolving as people get more information about their health and how to live a healthy lifestyle.
A well-balanced diet is essential to good health. A good diet needs to provide carbohydrates, proteins, and healthy fats, in sufficient quantities. Moreover, these should be in the right proportions. A healthy diet is also important for controlling diabetes and hypertension. A well-balanced lifestyle reduces the risk of chronic diseases such as heart diseases and strokes, and helps maintain a healthy weight.
Mental health and physical health often go hand in hand. A healthy mental health improves the ability to cope with day-to-day stresses and challenges, as well as managing stress. It enhances creativity, interpersonal relationships, and productivity. A healthy physical health is associated with good general health, and the absence of which can lead to severe health consequences. Quality, mental health services to reduce the burden of chronic disease, and improve overall well-being.
Although a healthy body is essential for physical well-being, there is much more to good health than just eating well. A mentally healthy life style and an active social network can help ensure that you have an abundant physical well-being.
