The Three Components of Fitness

The term “physical fitness” refers to the ability to do various tasks and functions effectively and efficiently. More specifically, it refers to the capacity to do activities of daily living (ADLs) successfully and safely by using our body’s built-in mechanism for muscular strength, flexibility and balance. Physical fitness can be achieved through adequate sleep, proper nutrition, and regular physical activity. ADLs include activities such as climbing stairs, swimming, playing sports, working at desks or computers, lifting household objects, and sitting, standing, or walking for long periods of time. These activities enhance your mental and physical capacity, making you ready to face new challenges.

Keeping Active and Healthy: The first step to fitness would be to get enough sleep. Having enough uninterrupted sleep helps the brain function better, allowing it to remain alert and creative longer. Aside from this, having a good and healthy diet helps maintain the proper blood pressure and heart rate. Another way to stay physically fit is to exercise regularly and to do it in a suitable way, which means that you have to assess your current fitness level and progress as you progress.

Cardiovascular endurance is the basis of a healthy cardiovascular system. The major components of cardiovascular fitness are heart rate, endurance, and flexibility. In addition, these three components are related to each other and serve as an integrated whole. So, it is important to have all of them measured and assessed regularly to keep track of your progress. The next component of cardiovascular fitness is physical endurance, which is measured through the person’s ability to sustain a specific amount of heart beat for a set period of time, usually within one hour.

Strength Training: Being strong means being able to accomplish activities, especially physical exercise. However, strength training should not only be done during workouts but also in the rest of your daily life. It helps prevent bone and joint injuries by maintaining a healthy weight. It helps improve muscle tone and increases mobility. And because it increases your bone density and body mass, strength training is also an important component of fitness.

Flexibility: Flexibility is an important part of fitness because it allows more movement, which makes you physically active and reduces the risk of injury. One example of a physical activity wherein flexibility plays a vital role is swimming. Swimming improves both your endurance and your flexibility, making it a great fitness activity to lower your risk of joint and bone injuries.

Regular Exercise: Physical exercise is the best way to improve your fitness. But aside from physical exercise, it is also important to have regular physical activity, such as walking or jogging. However, regular exercise is also helpful to improve your fitness levels. Regular activity helps keep you motivated to continue with your fitness program by decreasing boredom and promoting a healthier lifestyle.
